Freestyle Fighting Academy

Since 2001

South Florida's first MMA academy

Since 2001, Freestyle Fighting Academy has been teaching mixed martial arts in Miami. Whether you want to learn self-defense, get in the best shape of your life, have fun, or become a fighter — we have a program for you.

FFA was founded by head instructors Marcos and David Avellan. Each has trained in the martial arts for over two decades and competed across the world. Marcos was the 2005 ADCC US Trials champion and coach to undefeated TitanFC champion Jason “the Specimen” Soares. David earned a bronze medal at the prestigious ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships and created the world-famous Kimura Trap System, used throughout MMA and BJJ today.

Over the years our coaches have trained and cornered some of the sport's biggest names — including Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, Kimbo Slice, Alex “Bruce Leeroy” Caceres, Michael Chandler, Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis, and Brandon Vera.
