There is some misunderstanding about the term "MMA".

We get a lot of calls here at Evolution MMA, but one of the most common has to be, “What kind of MMA/Mixed Martial arts do you teach,” or even, “Do you teach UFC?”(the UFC is a promotion for the sport of Mixed Martial Arts).

They’ll wonder how we stack up to traditional martial arts like karate, tae kwon do, or aikido. Why choose our school over those? There is a lot of misunderstanding about the art of MMA, much of which is understandable! MMA is a relative newcomer compared to other traditional martial arts, combining everything from boxing to muay thai, from wrestling to judo, so it’s understandable when people ask: What is Mixed Martial Arts? What exactly is taught at Evolution MMA?

Here’s what we tell them about MMA:

We believe that true Mixed Martial Martial arts has no one style. When you train MMA, by taking influences from Muay Thai, kickboxing, Judo, Olympic Wrestling, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and more, it’s impossible for there to be one right way to do it, and any MMA coach worth their salt will teach it accordingly. At Evolution MMA, we teach fundamentals first, so that dedicated students can develop their own highly effective style of MMA, blending all the elements of the game so that it works for them. At the highest levels of pro organizations like the UFC or Bellator, it’s easy for commentators to point out particularities in a fighter’s game. Maybe they favor Russian grappling, or maybe they favor Dutch striking, but the reality of mixed martial arts is that specializations emerge in fighters with well-rounded fundamentals!

That’s why whether you’re interested in a specialized martial arts workout, or you’ve got dreams of being Miami’s next MMA rep in the UFC, Evolution is the gym for you. There’s nothing about MMA that you’d like to learn that can’t be found on our mats. Our team of coaches have been pulled from different martial arts backgrounds, and both they and our fighters have years of experience with everything Miami’s MMA scene has to offer. So if you’re in Miami, consider including a couple of local veterans while you’re shopping for the right team of coaches. We’ll even give you a free trial class to make it worth your while!

Call us today to set up an appointment so you can get your first class as early as possible, completely on the house. We can’t wait to see you!
