My name is Tina HoSang and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be the coach of Team HERO. Team HERO is the new, innovative mixed martial arts program for children with special needs at Evolution MMA. Team HERO was developed around the principles of martial arts, which emphasize discipline, perseverance, fitness, and hard work. HERO stands for Honor, Encourage, Respect, and Overcome, which are ideas that will benefit any child as they grow into adulthood. Team HERO is designed for all children with special needs including, but not limited to, Autism, Down’s Syndrome, physical impairment, visually impaired, hard of hearing, Tourettes Syndrome, traumatic brain injury, pervasive development disorder, ADD and ADHD. We offer a small class atmosphere or private lessons with individual attention and modifications to suit each student’s learning style. We teach a well rounded MMA curriculum, which includes kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu, self defense, and overall fitness. Our goal is not to teach “special needs MMA”, we aim to teach MMA in ways that accommodate all learning styles. Martial Arts offers special needs kids the opportunity to participate in an individual sport with a supportive team atmosphere. Mixed Martial Arts promotes good sportsmanship, social interaction, and develops listening skills in a fun environment while increasing fitness, flexibility, and mobility.
